Halign is a stakeholder-alignment simulation for healthcare management. It is written for health professionals, management students and managers in healthcare organisations, and it works on the management side of care, not the clinical side.

Developed with Professor Jaume Ribera and the Center for Research in Healthcare Innovation Management (CRHIM) at IESE, with funding from EIT Health, Halign puts participants in the shoes of the stakeholders of a health system, such as hospital executives, insurers, suppliers and healthcare professionals, and reproduces the interdependencies between them.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Stakeholder Understanding and Negotiation: Gain a deep insight into the perspectives of different stakeholders in the healthcare sector and learn the art of negotiation and collaboration to achieve mutual goals.
  • Change Management and Innovation: Understand how to orchestrate proposals for change in a healthcare setting, dealing with challenges such as digital transformation, financial constraints, and organizational restructuring.
  • Strategic Decision-Making: Enhance decision-making skills in complex scenarios involving multiple, often conflicting, stakeholder interests.
  • Collaborative Problem Solving: Develop the ability to collaboratively solve problems and create innovative solutions that benefit all parties involved.

Halign immerses learners into real-world scenarios, where they must role play to learn by doing.

  • Real-World Scenarios: Participants are immersed in realistic healthcare scenarios, each requiring a unique approach to stakeholder alignment and decision-making.
  • Role Playing: Assume various roles within a healthcare setting, from hospital CEOs to technology suppliers, gaining a holistic view of the healthcare ecosystem.
  • Interactive Learning: The simulation is designed to be highly interactive, encouraging participants to engage in discussions, negotiations, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Multicase Simulation: Offers a variety of cases, each presenting a unique set of challenges and learning opportunities. You can even create your own case study!
  • Management, not clinical: Participants work on the decisions around care, such as who has to agree to a change and what each party needs, not on patients, vital signs or procedures.
  • Comprehensive Educational Experience: Designed not just for learning but also for applying theoretical knowledge in practical, real-life situations.

In the case study of St. Elaine Hospital, participants can explore the challenges faced by Joan Osborne, the CEO, in managing a large general hospital. They can delve into issues like organizational restructuring, managing digital transformation, and introducing innovative healthcare solutions like e-health and home care monitoring. This simulation offers a rich environment to understand and navigate the complex web of stakeholder relationships and interests in the healthcare sector.
